J.D. RILEY GONE

Surrounded by his family and a host of waiting, anxious friends, Mr. J.D. Riley was called from labor to rest, Monday morning last as 1:10 o'clock.

When it became known that Mr. Riley was dead, a sad gloom was cast over the town and entire community, for no one in our midst was more loved than he.

His death came as a great surprise to his many friends and acquaintances over the county, many of them not knowing that he was indisposed. The sorrow in his death will be universal in Burnet county.

A great concourse of friends attended his funeral, which was conducted by the Masonic fraternity.

J.D. Riley was born in Travis county, Texas, November 25th, 1851, and had just reached the meridian of life, when the dread reaper cut him down. He was on August 18th, 1875, in Burnet county, married to Miss Lumina Vaughan, and from this union they have living, three sons and four daughters, who with the loving and faithful wife mourn the loss of the dear father and husband.

From early childhood Mr. Riley has been a consistent member of the M.E. church, and has lived always an honest, upright life. He was a member of the Masonic Order, and of the Woodmen of the World. In the later he carried a beneficiary certificate for $2000.

Died Suddenly

The sudden death of our friend J.D. Riley of Bertram last Sunday nigh was indeed a sad surprise to his many friends over the county. Heart trouble was the cause of his unexpected death. He leaves a family and an army of warm friends to morn his loss.

Only a few weeks ago Mr. Riley announced through the county press that he would be a candidate for Tax Collector again next year, but at that time, little did he think of being cut down by that terrible monster, death at this time. We deeply sympathize with the grief-stricken family in the loss of a devoted husband and loving father.
