Winifred "Boots' Nickles

Winifred L. "Boots" Nickles, age 88, of Yankton, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with the Rev. Gregg Frankman officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Lynch, Craig Van DeRostyne, James Van DeRostyne, Paul Nickles, Joe Nickles and Lyle Schulte.

Visitations will be from 1-9 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, with a 7 p.m. rosary followed by a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service.

Winifred L. "Boots" Betz was born to John L. and Minnie L. (Elfring) Nickles in St. Helena, Neb., on April 22, 1915. She married Frank J. Nickles on Nov. 29, 1934, at St. Mary's in St. Helena, Neb., and lived in Vermillion for two years before moving to Yankton.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1937. She was an avid bingo player.

Her memory will be cherished by a son, Bradley A. Nickles of Yankton, S.D.; two daughters: Nyla N. (Don) Van DeRostyne of Parker, S.D., and Kathleen A. (Tom) Lynch of Lancaster, Calif.; a sister, Mary Cheney of Watertown, S.D.; a daughter-in-law, Linda Nickles of Yankton, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, a son Larry, four brothers and five sisters.

The family requests that memorials be directed to: Sacred Heart School, 509 Capital Street, Yankton, South Dakota 57078.
