Katarina Augusta was born to Anton and Wilhelminia "Minnie" Barbara (Kind) Beck in Grove Township, Minnesota which is near Melrose. Katarine died at age 9 of diphtheria also in Grove Township. Family tradition is that a peddler came to their house and exposed the family to this dreaded disease. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, George Leopold Kind. She was survived by her parents, maternal grandmother, Anna Margaretha (Mog) Kind, 3 brothers, Johannes (John) George, Jacob Herman, and Anton Ernest; and 1 sister, Anna Louise.
