Mary Susan was born to George Leopold and Anna Margaretha (Mog) Kind. In 1870 the Kind family moved to a farm in Grove Township, Minnesota, which is near Melrose. She married William Otto Schwanke on April 28, 1886 in Grove Township. Here they farmed for many years. About 1916 the William and Susan took some of their family to Montana. They lived in the Power, Montana area for a few years. William and Mary had 7 children, 6 lived to adulthood. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 7, 1926; parents; daughter, Adela (infant); 5 brothers, Louis (Augusta Lietz), George (Adeline Behnke), William (Christine Discher), Albert (Amelia Senechal), and Unnamed (Infant); and 5 sisters, Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Nicholas) Beck, Anna (Henry) Wheeling, Catherine (Hermann) Barchenger, Clara (infant) and Augusta (Edward) Lietz. She was survived by 2 sons, Otto (Josephine Bergerson), and William (Leona Heiman); 4 daughters, Anna (Roy) Young, Bertha (Carl) Molin, Mary (Eugene (Neri), and Eleanora (Gordon) Scheilds; and 1 sister, Emma (Adolph) Kuhnert. Burial took place on November 5, 1953.
