Gerald Percy Petty passed away on 13 Mar 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, CA.
Gerald was born on 2 Sep 1952 in Battle Creek, MI to Percy and Marie Petty, both deceased.
He is survived by his wife Peggy, sister Gail Marie Petty and brother Dr. Gary Petty.
In November 1979, Gerald met his wife Peggy while she was working at Columbia George Bank in Stevenson, WA.
Gerald was the carpenter foreman on the building of the second powerhouse at the North Bonneville Dam in North Bonneville, WA, a position he was always proud of.
Gerald graduated from San Juan High School in Sacramento, CA where he was the star basketball player his junior and senior years. He earned many awards for his basketball talents. For the next 25 years after high school, he worked many construction jobs as a carpenter leadman, which he was very proud to talk about.
The Hanford Nuclear Power Project in Richland, WA, the Delano State Prison and Centennial High School in Bakersfield, and building apartments in Barstow, CA and other California communities. His greatest happiness was working on large construction projects.
In 1995, Gerald and his wife Peggy purchased the Trona Hardware and Lumber store in Trona, CA, which they were proud to own until May 2004.
Gerald"s hobbies included gold prospecting, NASAR and building a champion racecar in which he won the Bud National Street Stock Championship in 2002.
Gerald's pride and joy was his 6-year-old pit bull, Nugget.
It is Gerald's wishes to have his ashes scattered in the waters of the Columbia River on the upstream side of the Bonneville Dam.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Peggy, dog Nugget and his friends.
