TRAVERSE CITY - Gerard C. "Good Old Jerry" Lautner, 63, of Traverse City, died unexpectedly from natural causes Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, in Big Rapids.
Born Oct. 6, 1942, in Mineral Wells, Texas, he was the son of Ralph Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Emerson) Lautner. On Dec. 28, 1968, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City, he married the former Anne Mlsna.
A veteran, Jerry faithfully served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis with the United States Marine Corps.
Jerry loved his family and took special pride in playing with his grandchildren. He spent his time playing bridge, reading novels and watching television.
He is survived by his family; wife of 38 years, Anne Cecile Lautner of Traverse City; children, Chad Lautner of Traverse City, Kimberlee (Jim) Hillock of DeWitt, and Lisa (Tom) Vorce of Leland, N.C.; mother, Mary E. Lautner of Traverse City; grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Troy and Erin, all of DeWitt, Madison Vorce of Leland, N.C., and a grandson expected to arrive in May; siblings, Sharon (Alan) Buell of Kingsley, Dennis (Ann) Lautner of Traverse City, Bethalee Alpers of Traverse City and Bruce (Deborah) Lautner of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Joseph Lautner, who died on Jan. 6, 2006.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Lautner family will also receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service Wednesday.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Feb. 22, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Rev. James Hayden serving as celebrant. Military Honors will follow, under the auspices of the V.F.W. Cherryland Post #2780. Burial will take place at a later date in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
In remembrance of Jerry, memorials may be directed to the Jerry Lautner Family. Envelopes may be obtained either at the funeral home or church.
