It is unknown why or when the Owens moved to Texas. A possibility is that they wanted to take advantage of the land grants that could be had. Martha had two Burch uncles and an aunt living in Graham, Young County, TX, so that could have also played a part in their decision. What we do know is that Martha died August 13, 1885, when her youngest daughter, Lone Pearl, was just eight months old. She and her young family had stopped to visit her aunt and uncles on the Burch ranch ten miles out of Graham, TX, where she suddenly died. She is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Graham, next to her uncles Franklin Pierce and Thomas Burch. The stone for her marker was taken from the ranch and was hand carved. Reverend Owen returned to Tennessee shortly thereafter with his three young daughters. He remarried three years later to Louise Belle Donahue. He was a Methodist minister in Union County, TN, for many years.
