William Henry was born on July 18, 1901 in Bloom Furnace, Scioto County, Ohio. His parents were Perry and Nora (Antis) Henry.

He received a basic education and was able to read and write. By age 18, he became a laborer at a brick plant. The same brick plant that his father also worked at.

He married Margaret McKenzie, daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Caldwell) McKenzie, on October 27, 1920 in Jackson County, Ohio.

Together William and Margaret had four children: Elroy (1922-1988), Frances Marie (1923-2008), Morgan (1925-1984) and Lucy Jane (1929-2009).

William reportedly didn't want any daughters and therefore didn't want Frances and Lucy. Frances went to live with her Uncle and Aunt, John and Mary (McKenzie) Allen. Lucy went to live with her Grandparents, Joseph and Sarah (Caldwell) McKenzie.

William, who had an alcohol problem, got drunk one night and stumbled onto some train tracks. The train came by and amputated both of his legs. He subsequently hemorrhaged to death and was pronounced dead at 2:50 PM on May 30, 1936 at General Hospital in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. He is buried at Blackfork Cemetery.
