Mr. Trayer was a veteran of the U.S. Army; he served during World War II and in Korea.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by DuPont. He also was owner of Robert L's Coins-Stamps Inc.
He was a member of Shenandoah Valley Coin Club and Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers. He was a volunteer, life member and past president of Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad.
He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, to whom he was married Oct. 1, 1950, family members include a son, Robert W. Trayer and his fiancé, Michelle Dennhardt, of Stuarts Draft; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry T. and John Gentile of Yorktown; a sister, Elva Wilson of Sandston; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. Robert R. von Oeyen Jr., with graveside rites conducted by Augusta Staunton VFW Post 2216, followed by a family gathering at Bethany Presbyterian Church.
Active pallbearers will be members of Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Shenandoah Valley Coin Club.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Henry Funeral Home.
