Buford Cook, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away on March 14, 2011, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on April 20, 1922, in Cherokee County, N.C. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Normandy, France & Germany during World War II. While in Central Europe he spent a year helping to reconstruct The Rhine River Bridge reconnecting France & Germany. He received the Eamet Campaign Metal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Metal; AR 600-68 & Victory Metal.

After returning home from the war in November of 1945, he and his wife purchased a farm in Union County, Ga. where he became a hard working farmer while supplimenting his income doing construction work. He took pride in his wife, two children, five grandchildren & one great grandson and his farm. He was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Cherokee County, N.C.
