Ellwood James Brown 1880-1938 immigrated in 1890 to Merrill Fremont Twp Saginaw Michigan at age ten with his family. His chin comes from his grandfather Jonathan Nunn who was living in Merrill at the time of their immigration. His mother was Sarah Ann Nunn and his father was James Emmerson Brown who notarized his memories of the frontier days and how his GGgrandfather Thomas Brown left RI and went up the Champlain Lake trail to New York/Canada. (of the Chad Brown tree: Chad, James, James, Thomas, Thomas, Varnum, Calvin & James. His grandfather was Calvin Brown and his grandmother was Lucinda S. Sage daughter of Comfort Sage of 1812 war. Lucinda's grandmother was Christiana Brant married to Allen Sage Jr. Christiana was of Algonquin people nationality Mohawk related to Molly Brant & Joseph Brant. Ingersoll early families Burdick, Scott, Hopkins, and Sage were family to this Brown line. Like so many they knew they immigrated 1st to Michigan and then obtained land in Weston WY an area born of CB&Q railroad. He wore a WWI uniform in 1917-1918, was a cattle rancher, popcorn farmer in Saginaw County and always a carpenter by trade. The best years of his life were when he married Alice M. Clark and had two children Ruth Alice Brown and Robert Emmerson Brown. He suffered a minor heart attack around 1930 and moved back to Michigan. His brother Frederick W. Brown had not moved to Wyoming but stayed in Saginaw. His sisters Mable, Edna & Cora had moved to Wyoming. Mable and his parents stayed in Lusk Wyoming. Edna moved to Colorado and Cora moved to Flint MI with her husband who was a lawyer. She was an author and made money researching family trees for others. She was a expert on the Brown Tree and was proud of her nose as seen in her profile picture in the book Women of the West. It was a heart attack that ended Ellwood's life. He lived much longer than his brother Ellsworth who died at 9 months. His daughter Ruth preceded him in death too.
