Mabel Griffith

Funeral services for Mabel (Maggie) Griffith, long time Lusk resident, will be held at 2:00 p.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church this Friday with the Rev. Charles Wallis officiating.

Mabel Griffith was born in Ingersall, Oxford County, Canada on June 20, 1890. She died at her home in Youngtown, Ariz. Sunday.

As a young child Mrs. Griffith lived in Saginaw, Mich., and later moved with her family to Newcastle. She married Bill Edmondson on April 20, 1918, while she was a teacher at Silver City, New Mexico. The Edmondsons moved to Lusk in 1919. She taught in the county and was County Superintendent until 1932. The couple opened the Ben Franklin store in 1936. Mr. Edmondson died December 10, 1949.

Mabel Edmondson and J. B. Griffith were married August 29, 1957, at the Episcopal Church in Laramie. She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, helping to establish the city park here and the DAR log cabin. She also helped organize a commercial club that later became the Lusk Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board of Directors. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
