Regina was born to John and Barbara Cooper. At age seven, she came with her parents from Germany to America and settled in Galena, Illinois. Two years later, they moved to Sugar Creek, Iowa, where Regina grew up.

Regina married Peter Lass, Sr. on Nov 1, 1860 at Clinton County, IA. In the spring of 1871, she and her husband and their six children rigged up a prairie schooner and crossed miles of mud roads until arriving in Sioux City, where they loaded their equipment onto a train. Then, they crossed the Sioux River into Dakota Territory in the prairie schooner and spent winter in a small house north of where the Garryowen church now stands. In the spring, they filed on a homestead in the Emmet community.

Regina died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McGuire. She was preceeded in death by her husband; three of her twelve children; her parents; and by a sister, Catherine Conrad. She was survived by nine children; her sister, Barbara Maher; and, her brother, Anthony Cooper of Kansas City, MO; 48 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
