He was a member of the Second Indiana Cavalry, Co. "F" and a survivor of Andersoinville Prison.

Civil War Record for James Allen Sailors pension record 362933
James A. Sailors enlisted in September 12, 1861 as a private in Company F of the 41st Indiana Volunteers. Later he would be in the 2nd Indiana Cavalry.

He was captured by the Confederates on August 2nd, 1864 after several were separated from the cavalry unit at the battle of Brown's Mill near Noonan, Georgia near Atlanta.
Imprisoned in Andersonville Prison and eventually moved to the Florence Stockade Prison in South Carolina.

Discharged April 20, 1865 in Indianapolis.
