'Pat'
MONROE -- Miss Sturdivant, age 94, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 at Union Park Assisted Living in Monroe, NC.
Miss Sturdivant was born on January 2, 1917 in Union County, NC, a daughter of the late Mr. Charles Wheeler Sturdivant and the late Mrs. Hattie Allene Barrett Sturdivant. Miss 'Pat' was a graduate of Marshville High School, Wingate Junior College and Women's College (now UNG-G). She was a lifelong educator, having taught in various North Carolina Public School Systems from 1937 until 1973, with four years teaching in the Department of Defense Schools in Germany and Japan in the 1950s.
Miss 'Pat' taught her last 16 years at Merry Oaks Elementary School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Miss 'Pat' is survived by three nieces: Mrs. Jan Davis Cagle and husband Bob of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Mrs. Susan Davis Schlotter and husband Jim of Crescent City, California, Mrs. Dianne Sturdivant Hayes and husband Ronnie of Nashville, Tennessee; and three great-nieces and two great-nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Thursday afternoon, March 17, 2011 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Marshville, North Carolina.
Funeral services for Miss Sturdivant will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday afternoon, March 17, 2011 in the First Baptist Church of Marshville, conducted by the Rev. Frank Crump, with burial to follow in the Marshville City Cemetery.
The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Marshville's Building Fund, P.O. Box 667, Marshville, NC 28103 or to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Union Park Assisted Living in Monroe and to the Hospice Palliative Care of Charlotte.
