Mr. Brackett, who came to the West Palm Beach area in 1922, was a combat intelligence officer in World War II and the Korean War.
In 1952, he and a business partner, George Preston, founded West Palm Beach Federal Savings and Loan Association, the second federal thrift in the West Palm Beach.
The thrift's name changed to Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan Association in the 1960s and became Fidelity Federal Savings Bank 10 years ago.
It now has about 250 employees at 14 Palm Beach County branches and one Jensen Beach branch, and it has about $600 million in deposits. It had record profits in 1988 and an all-time high net worth, and it is considered one of Florida's most successful thrifts, Chairman Joseph B. Shearouse Jr. said Tuesday.
"He was a major impact to the success of the institution," Shearouse said. "Alan Brackett was a very conservative, dedicated person and was careful how he invested other peoples' money, and it helped us succeed."
Mr. Brackett was on the thrift's board and on the board of the 45th Street Mental Health Center at the time of his death.
