Bill passed away on March 8, 2011 at the age of 84 after a short illness. He was born on September 1, 1926 in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Leo Edgar and Edna Elvina (Rohrbach) Woodruff and was the youngest of 10 children.

After graduating from high school in Columbia, OH, he continued his formal education at the University of Utah, graduating with a B. S. in Chemical Engineering in 1948. He worked most of his professional career at the Hercules Powder Company, retiring in 1989.

While working his way through school as a dance instructor, he met, fell in love with, and married his wife of 62 years, E. Jean (Wolfe) Woodruff on August 28, 1948. They were sealed in the SLC Temple in 1962. They were blessed with four children.

Bill loved animals adopting and caring for all types. In his later years, he spent many hours on his front porch communicating with the local blue jays who adopted him. He was an avid reader with a broad interest in all subjects and could consume a book in a couple of days.

Bill was a faithful member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions. He particularly remembered his time serving on the Church General Board Dance Committee, the scouting program, and as a gospel doctrine instructor.

Among the many things he will be remembered for his kindness, personal integrity, and charitable acts. He had a quick wit and was a great story teller.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughters: Pam (Russell) Roopenian and Sally (Jim) Ostler; his sons: Dan (Chris) Woodruff and Mike (Sharon) Porter; grandchildren: Alex Woodruff, Melisa (Jason) Klink, Cody Ostler, Dalton Ostler and Lydia Ostler; and his two sisters, Melva Wilkins and Lucille Phillips.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12th at the Olympus 3rd Ward LDS Chapel located at 4100 Camille Drive (2480 East), Holladay, UT. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to funeral services.

Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Humane Society of Utah, 4242 South 300 West, Murray, Utah 84107 or the Alzheimer's Association, 855 East 4800 South, Murray, UT 84107.
