Arthur Hobbs died in a house fire near Marriottsville,MD. in Carroll county, with his wife, Lillian Mae and his 10 year old daughter Linda Lou. He and Linda were dead when the firemen arrived. Lillian died days later. The house was destroyed. The housefire was reported by a nearby soapstone factory where Arthur was employed.
Linda stayed home from school because she had a sore throat.It was reported that Linda had Polio, but an older sister was the one with Polio. Another daughter ,Barbara Mae,died in a house fire years before.
Three children were at Sykesville School,Thomas,8, Betty Jane,11,and Beatrice,13 years old. Two daughters were married; Evelyn,the oldest and Shirley, and Charles was living on his own.
