The funeral of Erby D. McGhee, 83, of 1167 County Road 2100 East, Roanoke, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home, Roanoke, with Don Crittenden and Mark Warnik officiating. Burial will be in Secor Cemetery, Secor. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He died at 8:35 a.m. (Aug. 5, 2002) at his residence.

He was born Aug. 5, 1919, at Purdin, Mo., a son of George E. and Lillian Garrett McGhee. He married Anna Belle Fairchild on Nov. 22, 1940, at Secor. She died Nov. 25, 2001, at Eureka.

Survivors include a son, John "Mike" McGhee, rural Roanoke; four daughters, Phyllis (Marc) Neikirk, Dallas, Texas; Geniece (Thom) Artru, Fredericksburg, Va.; Diana (Mark) Fawley, Roanoke; and Terri (Tim) Lanier, Sunnyland; a daughter-in-law, Sandy McGhee, Bloomington; two sisters, Vauniece Handell, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Genevieve (Harvey Jr.) Arnold, Rushville, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Carl; and one grandson, Cornell.

Erby was a farmer in the Secor area most of his life. He was a member of the Eureka Church of Christ.

He and his wife were active in the adopt-a-grandparent program with the Delta Zeta Sorority at Eureka College. He volunteered for BroMenn Hospice program for many years. He also was an honorary alumnus of Eureka College.
