'Mama T'
Mrs. Tugwell of Charlotte, NC, went to her heavenly home on March 3, 2011. She was born on October 1, 1919 in Farmville, NC. 'Mama T' was a devoted wife and loving mother. She never met a stranger and was one that truly loved giving rather than receiving.
She moved to Charlotte from Snow Hill, NC after living most of her life in Newport News, Va. She attended Greensboro College and worked for First Mortgage Corp. where she became one of the first women corporate officers in the state of VA. Ethel was always involved in business and church activities and was a past president of the Virginia National Secretaries Association.
Ethel was a member of Walnut Creek Country Club where she took up golf at the age of 55 to be able to spend more time with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson F. Tugwell, Sr., parents, Loys and Laura Murphrey, brothers Linwood, L. L., David, and Oliver Murphrey. Survivors include her son, Wilson F. Tugwell, Jr. and wife 'Sassy', brother, Charles Murphrey and wife Nancy, grandson, Matthew Neal Tugwell and wife Margaret, and great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Grey Tugwell, two step grandsons, Ben Dobson and wife Sarah and Chuck Dobson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Charlotte Square, CMC Pineville and Hospice for their loving care.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Farmville Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Forest Hills Cemetery officiated by Reverend Claire McKeown.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church, 109 West Greene Street, Snow Hill, NC 28580 or Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte, Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
