SUNSET BEACH - Wendell Johnny Smith, 83, Ocean Highway West, died Sunday, November 28, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born on February 26, 1921, in Brunswick County, NC. He was a son of the late Gaston and Emma Jane Stanley Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was the owner and operator of Smith Service Station in Thomasboro for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille L. Smith; one son, Wayne Smith, Holden Beach, NC; two daughters, Lois Norris, and husband, Vance, Ash, NC, and Verma Hardee, and husband, Randy, Sunset Beach, NC; two sisters, Rosie Long, Hickman's Crossroads, NC, and Mary Smith, Ash, NC; six grandchildren, Crystal Norris, Jenean Wiley, Allison Newcomb, Brandon Hardee, Jessica Smith, and Kristen Smith; two great grandchildren, Tyler Norris, and Philip Newcomb.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Charlie Smith and Rev. Jesse Stevens. Burial will follow in the Azor James Smith Family Cemetery.
