Gladys Boyd Staten, 84, of Saxe, entered eternal rest Thursday, March 4, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Staten was born July 18, 1926 to the late Bertha Boyd of Wylliesburg.

She attended the schools of Charlotte County and was a member of First Baptist Church of Wylliesburg,. There she served as a Deaconess and a member of the Missionary Board.

Mrs. Staten was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Staten; a daughter, Juanita Brooks; five grandchildren, three brothers, Mitchell, Emmett and Lee; and a sister Pearl Davis.

Cherishing her memories are her children, JoeAnn Wilson, Ronnie Staten, Peggy Scott (Tyrone) and Michael Staten all of Saxe, James T. Staten Jr. (Barbara) and Gladys Jefferson (Donald) of Richmond, Clarence Staten (Marion), Randolph, Stella White (Frank) of Fairless Hills, Pa., Barbara Wylie, Drakes Branch, Warren Staten (Michelle) of Keysville, and Geraldine Johnson (Kenneth) Brookneal, thirty-six grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, sixteen great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A funeral will be held Thursday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Wylliesburg, with Rev. Opie Terrell officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch.

Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City.
