Etlina J. "Ethel" Korenek was born in LaGrange, Fayette, Texas, the daughter of Joseph Louis "Joe" Korenek and Albina Zvonek. She died in Brookshire, Waller, Texas. She was first married to Jim Gallia on August 13, 1945 in Wallis, Texas. Jim Gallia was the son of Vince Gallia and Mary Uhyrek. Jim was born September 20, 1917 in Krasna, Fort Bend, Texas and died May 10, 1976 in Houston, Harris, Texas. Their children were James Gallia, Michael Gallia, and Frank Gallia.

After his death in 1976, she remarried to Leo Herman Goates on March 24, 1979 in Brookshire, Waller, Texas. Leo Herman Goates was the son of John Henry Goates and Rebecca Elizabeth "Lizzie" Curtis.

Funeral services for Ethel ( Gallia ) Goates, 69, of Brookshire are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday in Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis with Father Tim Bucek officiating. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Knesek Chapel in Wallis.

Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.

Mrs. Goates died December 28 in the Brookshire Arms Nursing Home. She was born June 12, 1923 in LaGrange, the daughter of Joe L. and Albina Zvonek Korenek. She attended school in Taiton.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brookshire and the Catholic Daughters of America 1538 of Wallis and KJZT 22 of Wallis.

Survivors include her husband Leo Goates of Brookshire; three sons, James Gallia and wife, Carol, of Rosenberg, Michael Gallia and wife, Janis, of East Bernard, and Frank Gallia and wife, Susan, of Rosenberg; a sister, Hattie Fucik of El Campo; four brothers, Alvred Korenek of Houston, Felix Korenek of East Bernard, Ben Korenek of El Campo, and Alois Korenek of San Antonio; and seven grandchildren: Brian and Justine Gallia, Jennifer and Allen Gallia, and Heather, Amber, and Joshua Gallia.

She was preceded in death by her first husband on May 10, 1976.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. at the Knesck & Sons Funeral Home in Wallis.
