She was adopted by an Abenaquis Tribal chief and learned the Language fluently.
Father Bigot, a Jesuit missionary who visited and instructed her in the Catholic faith at that time, was responcible for her ultimate release and he sent her to the Convent of the Ursuline nuns.
After deciding to join the Ursaline Order, she made her final vows on April 12, 1714. She was thereafter called Sister Esther-Marie Joseph de l'Enfant Jesus.
Finally on December 1760 she was made Mother Superiour of the Ursuline convent
