German immigrant, arriving in New York in 1847.* Settled in Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati, Ohio—a German neighborhood—where on January 6, 1853 he married Kunigunda Scholl, his wife of 51 years. Nine children, five born there over the next 12 years before relocating by 1866 to Germany, Union Township, Pike County, Ohio where he would farm for over 40 years. Per 98-year-old grandson, Robert Lewis Lahm (interviewed April 2006), "Grandpa [also] had a grocery store on Germany Road." Raised his children in the faith of the Catholic Church. Names of parents unknown, but supposed brother of German immigrant Jacob Nagel (1834-1866) of Over-the-Rhine. Resided with eldest daughter Lizzie Nagel Balmert the last six years of his life, dying of "La Grippe" (influenza) in Portsmouth, Ohio on his 91st birthday. --- *SOURCE: 1900 United States Federal Census & obituary.
