Walden Elvert Hills known to all as "Bud" was born April 30, 1921 at Sayre, Oklahoma, the second son of Lena Grace Campbell and Elvert Ray Hills. He departed this life at Sayre, Oklahoma, on June 3, 1970 at the age of 49 years. He moved with his parents and older sister to Cheyenne, Oklahoma when he was a baby, where he lived until the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marshall Foch, an infant, who was born November 11, 1918 on the first Armistice Day, and named for General Foch of Worls War I, of which war Bud's father, Elvert Ray Hills, was a veteran. He joined the Baptist Church in 1958.
Bud volunteered as a paratrooper during World War II, received training at Ft. Bennings, Georgia, and was attached to the undred and first airborne division; participated in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne. He received two purple hearts and was awarded the bronze star.
Bud was married to Bonnie Easter Harris in Raton, New Mexico. Bud and Bonnie retired as owners and operators of Hills' Restaurant in Cheyenne in January, 1970, a business which was opened on April 19, 1952, one of the Old Settlers Reunions. In 1961 they began operation of Hills' Motel in conjunction with the restaurant, in which business they were engaged at the time of his death.
Survivors are his wife, Bonnie, and son, Phillip, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Frances Ann Nichols, El Reno; a son Wesley Harris, Weatherford; two grandsons, Kallen and Quintin Nichols; two sisters: Arlene O'Neill, of Cheyenne, and Elverta Burns, Oklahoma City.
Pall Bearers were Jess Anderson, Glenn Tracy, Glen Kendall, Billy Chalfant, Chink Beaty, John Dunn, L.C. Lamb and George W. Prestridge.
Honorary Pall Bearers were Glenn Williams, W.R. Krows, E.L. McDaniel, Clarence Redden, Ted Haight, and Paul Beavin.
