PONTOTOC – Era Nix, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oxford. She was born Sept. 24, 1913. She was a very talented seamstress, retiring from manufacturing and then working in the health care industry until age 84. She was the oldest living member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Pontotoc. She was the widow of Robert "Thurman" Nix.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Baldwin, Nowell and Clark Chapel with Bro. Terry Faulkner, Bro. Sam Yarbrough and Bro. Thomas Littlejohn officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie Bridges of Pontotoc and Dianne Simmons of Ecru; three sons, Henry Nix of the Troy community, Buddy Nix and Kenneth "Red" Nix, both of Pontotoc; one sister, Loyce Vaughn of Pontotoc; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; two sons, Donald Ray Nix and Robert Thurman Nix Jr.; and one daughter, Betty Jean Nix.

Pallbearers will be Bob Nix, Joey Bridges, Danny Bridges, Mitch Nix, Jon Nix, and Chris Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Barton, Earskin Barton, Charley Barton and Mike Bailey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Cemetery Fund or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
