CORAPEAKE - Elton Baker Byrum , 86, of the 400 block of Union Branch Road, died July 13, 2000, in his home.
Mr. Byrum was born in Chowan County, N.C. The son of the late James Thomas and Sarah Daniels Byrum , he was a retired farmer. An active member of Eureka Baptist Church, he was a member of its Adult Men's Sunday School class, had served as a deacon, church treasurer and superintendent of Sunday School. Mr. Byrum loved to dry and arrange wild flowers and had shown his work at many area craftsman's fairs.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Robertson Byrum ; two daughters, Helen Ragland and Gloria Wiggins, both of Richmond; a son, E.B. Byrum Jr. of Portsmouth; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Byrum was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Byrum , on April 19 of this year.
A funeral will be held at 4 p. m . Sunday in Eureka Baptist Church by the Rev. Cameron Currin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Eureka Baptist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 68, Corapeake, NC 27926.
