Jane Alison (Roebling) Bennitt, of East Hartford, died February 27, 2011.

Born in New Milford, she has lived in East Hartford since 1963. Very active in her church, she was the Clerk for ten years, retiring and taking the position of Clerk of the Greater Hartford Regional Ministry which she held until resigning due to health reasons.

She has been the Senior Lector and Lay Reader at All Saints' since 1975; and was also licensed to administer the chalice in the Episcopal Church. She was among people who led morning worship at SEABURY Retirement Home in Windsor on Sunday mornings until its fruition. A Church Secretary by profession, she has worked in four area churches over the years and was employed last at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford.

She was the secretary of the St. Barnabas Guild and secretary of the United Methodist Women's Group. She had been a Junior Girl Scout leader and was very proud of her twenty-five-year pin as a Girl Scout. An avid gardener, she had a solar room which was made into a greenhouse and contained over 100 different varieties of plants.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Frances Bennitt of North Haven, a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Richard Nowak of Wallingford, and two grandchildren, James and Joshua Bennitt who were her pride and joy. Additionally, she is survived by six "special" grandchildren, Nichole Donzella of Windsor, Jessy Sica of East Hartford, Alisa, Allie, and Ashley Kraushaar of Hartford, and Zylund Lynch of New Britain, all of whom she loved; and many dear neighbors where she lived. She was predeceased by a sister, Linda Clymer of Manchester.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in All Saints' Episcopal Church, 444 Hills Street, East Hartford, CT, with the Rev. Sandra Cosman officiating.
Burial will be in St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery in Wallingford.
Friends may call at Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, on Thursday, March 3, 2011 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
