Warren Jefferson Gaddis, 4th child of John and Elizabeth (Connally) Gaddis was born according to Pension Records, 31 Dec 1805 Jackson Co., Ga. d. 22 May 1877 Marthaville, La. There is discrepancy about his birth because his tomb record states 31 Dec 1802. Since War Gaddis made application for his Pension, it stands to reason he knew his age better than those who made the tomb record. He is buried in a small cemetery, in a secluded area in Sabine Parish, about 3 miles south of Pleasant Hill, La. There are two large tombstones belonging to W. J. Gaddis and his son, Thomas F. Gaddis.
Our first mention of War was found in the Minutes of the Inferior Court, County Purposes 1820-1832 Gwinnett Co., Ga., June Term 1825, p. 96. The case is Murdock Martin vs. War Gaddis, which was settled at mutual cost. So, at the age of 20 we know he was in Gwinnett Co., Ga. The following year at age 21 War had met and asked Marian Lloyd to become his wife. There are two conflicting reports from family history stating the Father of Marian Lloyd. Since there is not conclusive evidence to prove either line, what is known is as follows. One report is that Marian is the daughter of an itinerant Baptist Preacher of Ga., the other says she is the daughter of John E. (b. 1768 - d. 1832) and Elizabeth Lloyd of Ga., that came from Maryland and founded the town of Newnan, Ga. John E. Lloyd was found in both Bibb Co. first and Jones Co. Second before moving to Talbot Co. in 1828. Other children besides Marion are Benjamin who married Naomi Cox, Butler Co. Ala., Joseph who married Elizabeth Haynie, Ala., James, John, LeRoy, Frances married Col. Morris, Butler Co. Ala., Elizabeth married John Gaddis, Coosa Co. Ala., Sophia and Polly who married Mullins and went to Texas.
In Bibb Co. Ga., Warham J. Geddis and Miriam Lloyd applied for a Marriage License on the 25th day of March 1826 with John P. Booth, Deputy Clerk-Court of Ordinary. The following day Warham J. Geddis and Miriam Lloyd were joined in Matrimony the 26th day of March 1826 with Jonathan Neil, M. G.(1) Marian Lloyd was b. 1806 in Ga. d. prior to 1868.
War Gaddis enlisted 8 June 1836 from Columbus, Ga. to fight in the Setninole and Creek Indian War, as a private in the Company commanded by Captain Gilbert D. Green, in the Volunteer Regiment of Georgia Militia commanded by Colonel Wood. His term of service was for three months.(2)

1860 War J. Gaddis on 4th Apr. bought 160.58 acres Scott Co., Miss No. 15603, Land Warrant no. 44388. Book 1 p. 74.
1869 War J. Gaddis has moved to Covington Co., Miss, (son Carter Jefferson Gaddis born there).
1875 War J. Gaddis has moved to Pleasant Hill, La. (son Eugene Marion Gaddis born there).
This gives a general idea of his trek from Ga. to Miss, except for the time he left south Miss, probably between 1860-1870 moving his family to Fla. to make a home there. The family developed "Swamp Fever" so he moved back to Miss. This may have been about when the decision was made to move again to Pleasant Hill, La.
It is not known when Marian (Lloyd) Gaddis died nor where she was buried. Sometime later War married again, this was a second marriage for both of them. He married Susan (Mayfield) Welborn who was b. 28 Feb 1843 at Hot Coffee, Covington Co., Miss. d. 25 May 1926 in Raleigh, Miss. Susan's 1st marriage was to John Ellzey Welborn by whom she had 1 child, Callie Welborn.
Warren Jefferson Gaddis was 70 years old when his 13th and last child was born and Eugene Marion was 5 years old when his father died. After the death of War Gaddis she moved back to Miss, where she met and married James Merchant Bryant and lived in the Raleigh, Miss. area.
James Merchant Bryant was b. 22 June 1843 - d. 22 Apr. 1923. Both he and Susan (Mayfield) Bryant are buried at Liberty Ditch Cemetery in Smith Co. on Hwy 37 between Raleigh and Taylorsville, Miss. Jim Bryant was the clerk of the Smith Co. Baptist Assn. from 1888-1907 and he was the Circuit Clerk of Smith Co. for 2 terms ranging from 1908-1915. Susan (Welborn) and Jim Bryant had no children.

Warham Jefferson Gaddis was the son of John Gaddis and Elizabeth Connally. His first wife was Miriam Lloyd by whom he had at least 9 children. He married Susan Mayfield after 1863 and they had at least 4 children. Susan Mayfield was the widow of John Caldwell Calhoun Welborn. He died at Vicksburg during the Civil War leaving her with a small child.
