He was born on February 14, 1941 to Robert and Verna Farmer at Mt. Emmons, Utah. He attended school at Craig, where he excelled at sports because "he could run fast". During his teenage years, his family moved to the Norwood area where, due to a heart murmer brought on by a childhood bout of rheumatic fever, he was unable to participate in sports. He quit school and went to work doing different jobs.
In December of 1960, he met Frances Ann Lewis, and in 1961, they married. From this union came their beloved six children, Audey Farmer of Nucla, Tim (Sheila) Farmer of Battle Mountain, Nevada, Kerrie Farmer of Aztec, New Mexico, Dawn (Clay) Morris of Nucla, Cassie (Tom) Murphy of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ryand (Deanna) Farmer of Nucla.
Other survivors include his sisters, Garil Homblin of Libby Montana and Betty Knuckles of Nucla; and a brother, Tom Farmer of Redvale.
A sister, Rayma, preceded him in death.
