Death of Patrick McDermitt
At 6:45, last evening the spirit of Patrick McDermitt, an aged and respected citizen of this city, passed from time to eternity at his residence, 2315 Maple avenue. He was born in county Roscommon, Ireland, about seventy-years ago, and came to this country thirty years later. It was about 1848 that he came to Altoona, and worked upon the construction of the Pennsylvania railroad. For several years he has been employed under Foreman Thomas McKiernan, it being only a few days since he was obliged to quit work. In January, 1865, the deceased was married to Mary Nolan by the late Rt. Rev. Bishop Tuigg. The result of this union was six children, five of whom, together with the bereaved wife, are left to mourn the loss of a truly affectionate husband and kind, loving father. These are John, Bridget, Anna and Catharine, all of whom reside at home. And Sister Mary Vincent, a member of the order of Sisters of Charity. Always a faithful member of the Catholic church, he died fortified with the last sacrament of the church, administered by his pastor, Rev. Father Smith.
The funeral cortege will leave the last residence at 8:30 o'clock Monday morning and proceed to the Sacred Heart chapel, where requiem mass will be celebrated. Interment in St. John's cemetery.
