STANFORD — Dr. Larry Jack Oliver, 75, of Stanford, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.

Born May 21, 1935, in Herrick, S.D., he was a son of the late Willie and Clara Engel Oliver. He was a veternarian, a farmer and a member of Stanford Bapist Church.

He attended South Dakota State University and Kansas State University where he recieved his B.S. and DVM degrees, graduating from veterinary school in 1969. Dr. Oliver served Lincoln and surrounding counties as veterinarian from 1969-2006.

He was a longtime choir member and Deacon Emeritus at Stanford Baptist Church, named Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce "Farmer of the Year' in 2004 and was given the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce "Health Care Service Award" in 2007. He was given the Agriculture Service Award by the Lincoln County Cattlemen's Association for 37 years of service and gave 24 years of service to the Lincoln County Board of Health. He also was awarded the Lincoln County Farm Bureau Service Award and served as director for nine years. He was a member of Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association and American Veterinary Medical Association.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lois L. Oliver of Stanford; four daughters, Diane Wylie (Robert Sr.) of Stanford, Connie Oliver of Lexington, Vicki Singleton (Jimmy) of Stanford and Colleen Wheat (Randall) of Russell Springs, Ky.; four brothers, Wilbur Oliver of Texas, Delbert Oliver of California, Alfred Oliver of Nevada, and Willie Oliver of Nebraska; two sisters, Maxine France and Dorothy Diekmann, both of California; nine grandchildren, Chris Whitis, Jason Whitis, Dana Herring, Jenny Wylie, Sarah Singleton, Adam Singleton, James Andrew Singleton, Dustin Brockman and Laura Nissley; 10 great-grandchildren; and family friend, Paula Cornelius.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald, Lyle and Leslie Oliver; and by a grandson, Robert Wylie Jr.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Stanford Baptist Church. The Rev. Max Hester will officiate. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Adam Singleton, James Andrew Singleton, Jason Whitis, Chris Whitis, Dustin Brockman and Merv Nissley; honorary bearers will be Jay Burton and the Stanford Baptist Church Choir.

Visitaiton will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at the church. In leiu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, N.C., 28201-0001. Spurlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
