Willie “Will” James Oliver, 69, of Minatare, passed away Feb 17, at his home. A funeral service will be held February 25 at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare. The Nebraska Army National Guard will provide military funeral honors. Will was born September 9, 1945 in Gregory, South Dakota to Willie “Bill” and Clara (Engel) Oliver. He was raised on the family farm north of Burke, South Dakota and attended school at the Rembrant School. The farm was sold and the family moved north of Dallas, South Dakota where he finished grade school. Will attended Gregory High School and graduated in 1963. He spent the next two years at the University of South Dakota located in Brookings.Will was drafted into the United States Army in June 1967. He served proudly as a Combat Medical Corpsman in Vietnam. Will was awarded the Purple Heart for his combat wounds. He was the sixth brother to serve his country during wartime. Will worked for the United States Government after he was released from the service. Will enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and hiking. He also worked with wood, making toys, violins, dulcimers, furniture, and small carvings, all the while being a great husband, father, and grandfather.Preceding Will in death were his parents, Bill and Clara Oliver; brothers, Ronald (Florret) Oliver, Lyle Oliver, Delbert Oliver, Leslie Oliver, and Larry Oliver; nephew, Forrest Oliver; great-great nephew, Radd Oliver; and great great nieces, Ranya Oliver.
