ABERNATHY, JOE B. Born April 13, 1912 in Mineral Wells, TX and went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2003 in Dallas, TX. Joe began working for the FBI in 1942 and the family was transferred to Charlotte, NC; Newark, NJ; San Antonio, TX; Los Angeles, CA; and Dallas, TX in 1953. In 1963 when President Kennedy was assassinated, Joe worked on the case relentlessly and is "absolutely positive" that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone! Joe retired from the FBI in 1976 and was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. He was an active member of Walnut Hill United Methodist Church for 48 years. Joe is preceded in death by father, Sheriff and Texas Ranger William Gilbert Abernathy and mother, Belle Maxwell Abernathy. He is survived by son, Richard Kennedy Abernathy and wife, Bonnie of Dallas, TX; granddaughter Sandra Lynn Abernathy of Naples, FL; daughter Suzanne Perry and husband, George, and granddaughter, Jennifer Perry of Clarksville, MD. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at Restland Funeral Home.
