On February 26, 1901, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Freerksen, who preceded him in death about 2 ½ years ago. There were seven children born to this union.
After their marriage they moved onto a farm northwest of here. Later they moved southwest of town and in 1930 they moved to a home in Kanawha. Not long after the death of his wife he suffered a stroke, making it impossible to live alone. From that time until a few months ago, he made his home with his daughters. The last weeks of his life were spent at the Good Samaritan Home in Mason City, at which place he passed away on Saturday evening, December 8, 1951 at the age of 75 years and 2 months old. The cause of death was another stroke and finally a cerebral hemorrhage.
He was a charter member of the Kanawha Christian Ref. Church and until the time of his first stroke was very faithful in church attendance. He made confession of faith on March 20th, 1900.
Surviving him are the children: Tillie Smidt, Cornelia Smidt, Bernard Abbas, Ellie Smidt, George Abbas, and Florence Ruter. Also one sister, Cora Seebeck; 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife, One daughter Fannie Veldhouse, two grandchildren, Roger and Ronald Abbas and three sisters.
