Mrs. Ferol Clarice Sweat Dowling, 84, passed away Friday (March 17, 2023) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following a short illness.
She was born in Fairfax, GA to the late Purdom Howard Sweat and Lillie Rowland Sweat. She was a homemaker and caregiver most of her life and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Henry Jackson Dowling, Jr.; and a daughter, Wendy Clarice Sturges; five siblings, Howard Sweat, Doris Bennett, Shirley Edenfield, Reavis Sweat, Wesley Sweat, and David Sweat.
She is survived by a daughter, Penny Smith (James) of Blackshear; a son, Wendall J. Dowling of Waycross; five grandchildren, Derrick Smith (Misty), Jamie Smith (Melissa), Heather Sturges (late Frank), Jessica Sturges, and Joshua Sturges; a son-in-law, Jerome Sturges of Waycross; twelve great grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Kerston Smith, Jaxon Smith, Haden Smith, Brylee Smith, Abby Brown, Andrew Brown, Anna Belle Barbaree, Dillon Barberee, Cole Barberee, Ryan Barberee, and Cameron Ebersol; one brother, Travis Sweat (Myra) of Dallas, GA; two sisters-in-law, Marie Sweat and Joan Sweat; three special nieces, Diane Turner, Mary Sue Futch, and Millie Edenfield Kessler; and a special aunt, Anne Dowling.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (March 20, 2023) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery in Millwood. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 until 8 o'clock.
