Laura Smith
Laura E. Smith, 86, of 510 Broadway, Normal, formerly of rural Downs, died at 1:25 p.m Tuesday at Americana Health Center, Normal.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Metzler Memorial Home, the Revs. Ralph Faisst and Fred Belcher officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Downs.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home.
She was born Jan 21, 1893, at Roberts, a daughter of Samuel and Amelia Zahn Ebert. She married James M. Smith June 28, 1927, at Bloomington He died Dec 19, 1975.
Surviving are a niece raised by Mrs. Smith, Agnes Morgan, Lutsen, Minn; three sisters, Mrs. Lew Caster, Oakland, Calif., Mary Ellington, La Grange Park,and Ida Tornowski, Roberts, and four brothers, Charles W. Ebert, Huntsville, Texas, Frank G Ebert, Racine, Wis.,Reuben S. Ebert, Lakewood, Calif. and Samuel G. Ebert, Vacaville, Calif.
One sister and one brother preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St Luke Union Church. She had taught 45 years at the Sunday school of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Home Bureau and served as a 4-H leader for many years.
She was a 1926 graduate of Illinois State University and taught 15 years in McLean. Ford and Fulton counties, including five years at Downs.
