Mrs. Louisa Jane Shaw

Born in the Province of New Brunswick, Canada, November 23, 1835, Mrs. Louisa Jane Shaw attained the age of 90 years, 5 months and 4 days. Her death occurred Tuesday, after a residence in California since 1854, at which time she came across the Isthmus, and to San Francisco on the old S. S. Baltic.

Mrs. Shaw was a typical pioneer woman and in the years of her residence in the new country was the wife of a miner after the fashion of the time and when her husband devoted his efforts to farming, she was a willing and faithful worker for the family cause.

Her keenness of mind, and her friendliness and good old fashioned hospitality never deserted her, and years after the family hearth was broken up and the home of her daughters was filled with friends she welcomed, and in whose affairs she was keenly interested.

She is survived by a daughter and son, Mrs. Lizzie Leighton and Alva P. Shaw of Sonora.

The funeral was conducted from the Burden Chapel Wednesday afternoon, interment being in the Citizens Cemetery, Columbia.
