Mr. DeRossett began his career with Southern Railway in 1928 as a messenger in the relay office in Chattanooga and moved to the freight claims agent's office in Atlanta in 1934. He served on the staff of the National Railroad Adjustment Board in Chicago from 1935 to 1939.
For the next 21 years, he held several positions in the personnel department of Southern's corporate headquarters in Washington, D.C.
As a member of the National Railroad Adjustment Board, he represented railroads in the Southeastern states from 1961 to 1969, during which time he lived in Northfield, Ill. He returned to Washington in 1969 and served as Southern's assistant director of labor relations until his retirement in 1977.
Mr. DeRossett moved to Oak Ridge from Chevy Chase, Md., in 1984. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. DeRossett is survived by his wife, Edna Cecilia Corrigan DeRossett; and two sons and a daughter-in-law, William J. DeRossett of Kingston, and Edmund and Deirdre DeRossett of Mercerville, N.J.
He is also survived by a sister, Louise Tolleson of Chattanooga; a brother, Thomas DeRossett of Atlanta, Ga.; and by two grandsons, William DeRossett, a student at the University of Tennessee and formerly of Mercerville, and Matthew DeRossett of Mercerville.
The funeral will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church... Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park...."
