Elbert was married to Mary E. Harlin on December 17, 1900 in Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois. Mary was born on October 15, 1880 near Chillicothe, Peoria County, Illinois, the daughter of Frank T. Harlin and Ella A. (Clark) Harlin.
Three children are known to have been born to Elbert Isaiah Nurse and Mary E. (Harlin) Nurse, including;

B. Ella Nurse, born February 20, 1903 in Long Prairie, __________ County, Illinois. Ella was married to Hubert Joshua Roswell in 19__. Hubert was born on August 13, 1899, the son of Roy W. Rockwell and Otelia A. (Moffitt) Rockwell.
At the time of the 1940 census, Ella, listed incorrectly as Alma, and her family are found in Ward 1, High Point, High Point Township, Guilford County, North Carolina;
