Life-Long Resident of Worthville Section Dies at Home of son in Sprankle Mills
Mrs. Sarah Jane Mauk, a lifelong resident of the Worthville section, died suddenly Saturday afternoon while visiting at the home of her son, J. L. Mauk, of Sprankle Mills. Mrs. Mauk, who was 81 years of age, had been in poor health the past month but her death was nevertheless a distinct shock to her relatives and many friends.
She was born near Brookville, October 22, 1849, the daughter Jacob and Esther (Barr) Miller. In 1868 she was united in marriage to William Mauk, of Worthville who died about 30 years and for many years lived on a farm near Worthville.
Mrs. Mauk enjoyed the friendship of all who came in contact with her and her death will be sincerely mourned by all who knew her. She was quite well known in this city, having visited on many occasions at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl J. Gourley, of Superior Street.
She is survived by five sons and daughters: M. C. Mauk, of Worthville; J. L. Mauk, of Sprankle Mills; Mrs. Earl J. Gourley, of Punxsutawney; Mrs. C. A. Stahlman, of Williamsport,and Mrs. C. E. StahIman, of Tarentum. Two daughters, Mrs. Jacob Clontz, and Mrs. D. A. Schwab, and one son, John Mauk, nave preceded her in death. She also leaves two brothers and two sisters: William Miller, of Philipsburg, Pa.; J. Andrew Miller, of Bay City, Mich.;
Mrs. George Osborne, of Lansing,Michigan and Mrs. Emma Hamilton, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Evangelical Church at Worthville. Interment will be made the Worthville Cemetery.
