---Hettie Katheryn Deacon Gehlauf, age 95, formerly of La Plata, Missouri, passed away on Friday (April 21, 2000), at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
---Born on October 16, 1904, in Hurdland, Missouri, she was the daughter of Samuel E. and Malinda (Vansickle) Power. On August 15, 1922, in Kirksville, Missouri, she married Murrel Deacon who preceded her in death on August 10, 1955.
---On January 2, 1977, she married Elzie R. Gehlauf in Columbia, Missouri, who also preceded her in death on December 4, 1995.
---Also preceding her in death were her parents; two daughters, Katherine Fae Deacon and Merlene Mae Rogers, one son, Rolland (Rod) O'Dale Deacon; four brothers Thomas, Franklin, August and John Power, three sisters, Abigail Orpha Power, Mae Taylor and Sarah Conklin. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Paul and Marjorie Deacon of Monrovia, California; two daughters and sons-in-law, Arvilla and Joseph McClellan of Columbia, Missouri, and Joann and Ron Taylor of Raytown, Missouri; two daughters-in-law, Betty Deacon of La Plata, Missouri, and Mrs. Robert Deacon of Monrovia, California; one son-in-law, Leon Rogers of Kirksville, Missouri; three sisters, Gladys Deacon of Sun City, Arizona, Ruby Power of Little Switzerland, North Carolina, and Roberta Love of La Plata, Missouri; twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
---Hettie worked for many years at the Lenoir Retirement Home in Columbia Mo. as a practical~nurse and later as a receptionist. She was a member of the Mt. Tabor Primitive Baptist Church in Wilson Town, Missouri.
---Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (April 25, 2000), at the Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri, with the Elder Allen Curtis officiating. Music will be provided by Sarah Beth Fouch, organist, and Melvin Bissey soloists, singing "Beyond The Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross".
---Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery, La Plata, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Dale Deacon, David Deacon, Don Long Jr., Michael Long, Randy Rogers, and Bob Rogers.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday (April 24, 2000), at Travis Funeral Chapel. The family requests that memorials in memory of Hettie Katheryn Deacon Gehlauf to be made to the Mt. Tabor Primitive Baptist Church. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Travis Funeral Chapel.
