Sandra Dew Graves, 72, of Ooltewah, TN died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, of pancreatic cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents William F. and Holly Dew; and a brother, William Dew.
Mrs. Graves grew up in Calhoun, Ga. After marriage to R. Marvin Graves she moved all over the world, 18 times in 20 years to be exact as the wife of a military officer. The family settled in Ooltewah after retirement and have lived here for almost 35 years. She led an active life holding memberships at Manker Patten Tennis Center and The Racquet Club and once rode 53 miles on a bicycle from Chattanooga to Calhoun.
She taught Sunday School and led Bible Study, was an instructor at Weight Watchers and volunteered in the prison ministry at Silverdale Correctional Facility and Rock of Ages.
During her time in Chattanooga she was a member of Ooltewah Baptist Church and Brainerd Hills Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, R. Marvin Graves; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Gary Lange, Sharon and John Curry, Nancy and Jeff Wahler; eight grandchildren, Dallas, Holly, Dustin, Gary (Cassie) Lange, Phillip and Cassie Curry, Kelsey and Christopher Wahler; one great-grandchild; very close brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Linda Graves, George Graves, Russell and Anne Graves, Wynelle and Charlie Middlebrooks; cousins, Jimmy Dew, Marsha Dew Bansley, Sydney Dew and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 16041, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011, at Ooltewah Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Mason and the Rev. Larry Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Phillip Curry, John Curry, Gary William Lange, Dallas Lange, Gary Lange, Dustin Lange, Jeff Wahler and Christopher Wahler will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
