Victor P. Schiers, 81, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.


He was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Albert and Edith (Merz) Schiers.


He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theatre where he received the Purple Heart.


He later worked as a telegrapher for the Milwaukee Road Railroad for many years.


He is survived by two brothers, Charles of Burlington Township, N.J., and Donald (Donna) of Ft. Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Dorothy Curler of Davenport, Iowa, and Mae Fritschel of Washington State.


He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert.


A Memorial Service will be Monday, March 8, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Rev. Louis Trzil officiating. Military Rites were accorded immediately following the memorial service by the Harpers Ferry American Legion.
