US MARINE CORPS - WORLD WAR II
PRESQUE ISLE – Lawrence E. James, 85, with his humor intact, passed away peacefully Dec. 22, 2008. Lawrence was born March 31, 1923, in Presque Isle, to Cyrus and Hazel (Brown) James. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, was a potato farmer for many years and ended his working life as a carpenter.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis (Melville) James; daughters, Glenda Johnston and husband, David, Gloria Ward and Gayle James; son, Jerry James and wife, Carol; and a special daughter-in-law, Gail James. He truly enjoyed all of his nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Mildred Hayes and husband, Richard, and Jean Brown and husband, Bernard; many nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was predeceased by a son, Byron; a sister, Irene McLaughlin; and a son-in-law, Charles Ward.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. (Bangor Daily News 12/23/2008)
