Mary was the daughter of William Patterson and Catherine Snider.

In 1840 she married William Stoy in Tuscarawas County. He was the son of John Stoy & Elizabeth Pisel.

After Mary's death in 1849, William Stoy married Elizabeth Keesy in 1850. They lived in Williams County, Ohio where they remained the rest of their lives and raised a large blended family.
