Wife of
1. John David Sumpter
2. Redmon O. H. Logsdon m. 1863

Mother of
1. Malinda Jane (Sumpter) Cain
2. Armilda Sumpter

In the 1880 census, she is listed as living with her daughter. Rebecca also had a brother, Evans Preston Mulenix who married Mary Polly Dickerson and is living not far from the Sumpters in the Putnam Co., Mo 1850 census, and also near his brother, James Lemuel Mulinax/Mullenax/Mulleneau. The Mullineaux family were originally French Hugenots. (provided by Janine T)

Rebecca and John had 13 children. Most of them, except afterborn children Mary (Vogal); John Jr., and Armilda (Hart) are listed in the Putnam County, MO 1850 Census.

John left Rebecca soon after his daughter Missouri Ellen was born of his sweet-young-thing, Mary Ann Lawson-Liford, and they went (ran off) south to Newton County, Arkansas and begat another family of 10 or so kids. John was father-in-law to Mary Ann's sister, Elizabeth Lawson Sumpter (Mrs. James Evans Sumpter).

John Sr. was the great-nephew to General Thomas Sumpter/Sumter of Revolutionary War fame. The General dropped the "p" from his name when he moved to South Carolina. The General was once an Indian Agent to the Cherokees and at that time he spelled his surname with the "p".
