Billy Joe Purdom, 76, of Broken Arrow, OK (formerly of Porum) passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Gatesway Foundation in Broken Arrow. He was born May 4, 1934 in Keefton, OK to Mark V. and Anna M. (Grinstead) Purdom. He grew up at Briartown and Porum where he received his education. Billy Joe made his home in Porum until 1992 before moving to Broken Arrow. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with his friends. He loved working, dancing, country music and doing for others. Putting a smile on people's faces was a delight to him. He was a member of the Porum Assembly of God Church. He is survived by one sister, Bette Hankins of Columbus, GA; one brother, Mark B. Purdom and wife Myrt of Whitefield; special friend, Kelly Ann Buchanan of Broken Arrow; several brothers and sisters in Christ at the Gatesway Foundation in Broken Arrow; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded by his parents; four sisters, Juanita, Louise, Mildred and Shirley Ann; five brothers, Royal, Doyle, Junior, Ruben and Joy Purdom. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Coleman Cemetery in Porum with Rev. Tommie Parker officiating. Pallbearers will be Roy, Ted, Jim and Brent Purdon, Mark Purdom, II, Bill McDaniel and Mark Cameron. Burial will follow under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
