Obituary - Gene Rulon Green, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed from this life to the next due to complications from a recent hospitalization on November 11, 2006. Dad was born August 26, 1930 in Kaysville, Utah, the son of William Don and Caroline Jones Green. He was of the fifth generation of the Green family to live in Kaysville after the pioneers entered the Great Salt Lake Valley.
Dad graduated from Davis High School in 1948 and later graduated from Weber College with an Associates Degree. He later attended both BYU and the University of Utah.
Dad met Nedra Lorraine Dodge of Ogden while working as a teletype operator at the naval base in Clearfield, Utah. They were later married in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints February 18, 1954. They made their home in Kaysville, UT. from 1954 until 1996 when they moved to Taylor, Weber County, UT.
Dad worked for Hill AFB and retired as a Logistics Officer after 39 years of service as a civil servant. Dad loved quarter horses and excelled at training them to race. He served in many capacities in the Utah Quarter Horse Association including Director, Vice President and two-term President to enhance the organization and promote the activities of the American Quarter Horse. He was awarded the Laurel Brown Award and the President's Special Recognition Award for outstanding service to horseman. He was instrumental in obtaining AQHA approval for non pari-mutuel racing at both Tremonton and Laurel Brown race tracks. Served for five years as Chairman of the Golden Spike Futurity Sale. He also served as an Official Racing Steward for the American Quarter Horse Association. Dad also served in many religious positions in both the ward and stake level for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to do his Home Teaching. Dad loved to talk to everyone he met. He never met a stranger.
He left a legacy of a strong family, including, Nedra his loving wife of 52 years, his two children: Kip (Rex) Searle of Plain City; Cary (Charla) Green of Fruit Heights; eight grandchildren, Ferrin Jenkins (Monica), Saje Searle, Brian Green, Dakota Searle, Eric Green, Kyle Green, Shylla Searle and Tyler Green) and one great-grandchild, Tony Jenkins, and brother, Dee Lynn Green of Kaysville.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
